2 Cor 6:4
”Rather, as servants of God, we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses.”
A curriculum vitae is a latin word which means ‘course of life’. It is often shortened as CV, and is mostly a written overview of a person’s life work. I find it interesting reading some of the very impressive CV’s of important people in society. However, in the key Scripture above, the great apostle Paul gives us his own version of what the Christian’s CV should look like.
His job title is boldly written as ‘a servant of God’; and that’s what we truly are. We are called to serve. In addition, he gives a rather shocking list of what his course of life has been like.
- Great endurance.
Trust me, anyone who wants to walk this faith walk must consistently look up to Jesus, who for the joy ahead, endured the cross. (Heb 12:2)
What have you endured as a child of God? - Troubles.
Yes, his second commendation was about troubles. Jesus said: ”In this life, you will have many troubles but be of good cheer, I have overcome.” (Rom 16:33). Thankfully, God often give us double blessings for our troubles. - Hardships and distresses.
That means sufferings.Make no mistake, suffering is an integral part of this walk of faith. It is indeed the gateway to glory. Jesus said, “Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory”? (Luke 24:26)
Dear friend, it is obvious that Paul’s CV may not pass for any contemporary appointment. This however is the way to greatness in the kingdom of God. “if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may share in his glory”. (Rom 8:17b)
No matter what you have been through this season, get ready, greater glory is on the way!
